I’m so excited to show you my finished tree for the Michaels Holiday Dream Tree Challenge!!
So I know my colors were going to be turquoise, red, white …but when I started decorating, I fell in love with the red and white by themselves!
My favorite thing about the tree? These ginormous glittery candy cane ornaments…and yes they’re shatterproof, too.
Here’s a close up of the rest of the ornaments. Every single thing you see on this tree is from Michael’s so you can find what you need there along with many other themes.
As for the top of the tree? This was the very first year I haven’t had a star on top! I saw these blingy candy swirls and knew they had to top the tree!
Oh and in case you missed the how to add snow to an artificial tree tutorial…
I want to give the fabulous people at Michaels a HUGE thank you for inviting me to be a part of this amazing challenge.
Thank you for my dream Christmas tree! I couldn’t be happier!
Make sure to check out the many dream trees from the other bloggers on Michael’s Facebook Album, and their Pinterest board!

how much do you think you spent putting it together? were the swirls on top very expensive?
Kari Sweeten says
The sticks coming out of the top were about $5 each and that wasn’t using a coupon. I used 4 sticks on top! Not too bad!

My daughter Tya has a white tree that she does in purple each year. (she is 14) She wants to add in white and do the candy canes in purple! She already has tons of purple ornaments.
Kari Sweeten says
Sounds gorgeous!!

Love it Kari! I’ve had a peppermint tree for years now. It’s nice because you can always find more red and white ornaments to decorate with. I have those same giant candy canes and they are my favorite part of the whole thing.
Kari Sweeten says
You have them, too? Aren’t they so gorgeous?!

Amazing! This is my theme every year but those giant candy canes are to die for. I have never seen those at our Michaels! Utah Michael’s stores are so much better.
You have mad skills!
Kari Sweeten says
I was in another Michaels store today and noticed they didn’t have the candy canes either. Looks like some stores carry more inventory than others.
Thanks for your sweet comment Lynette!

Your tree is stunning! I love that when I google Michael’s trees this is one of the first ones to come up!
Now about those candy canes. I cannot find them at Michael’s. Did they come in a box or loose? I am having the hardest time and they really are a must-have! ;-D
Kari Sweeten says
Hi Cyndie,
Thank you! They come in a large clear box as a set of 4…I believe they’re 19.99, but with a coupon it makes them a little over $10…great deal!
The Tree Topper says
Red & white is a great holiday color combination. You did a great job. Thanks for sharing.
Kari Sweeten says
I was actually going to add turquoise to the color pallet but decided to stick with the classic red/white…so glad I did!
Corinn says
I recently came upon your blog and LOVE it! Thanks for sharing all of your fun ideas! I love everything about your tree! I think I will use it as inspiration for mine! Do you have any suggestions for using the deco mesh? I’ve never worked with it before.
Kari Sweeten says
Thanks Corinn!
I love the deco mesh…it automatically sticks to the tree and I didn’t have to tie it on like I do with ribbon. Give it a try…you’ll LOVE it!

Hey i love your tree. Yes just came across it, I would love to recreate it, I live in the UK, I found ou That michaels doesn’t deliver to international addresses ? do you happen to know the names of the baubles etc so I can google them or something I am I live with the giant candy canes, do you happen to know their length, I have found some online but I want to make sure they are similar in length to the ones you have. My son would just love this. I know this post is a bit old but I am amazed.
Priscille Chetty says
Hi Kari,
would love to know if you could assist in identifying the ornaments you used for this tree, its amazing. Unfortunately Michaels does not have everything on your tree.
Is it a possibly to engage your services for a fee? Look forward to hearing from you.
Kari Sweeten says
Hi Priscille,
I actually created this tree 6 years ago so unfortunately they do not have many of the ornaments. They do have many similar peppermint ones though and you can put together a beautiful peppermint tree with many peppermint and snowflake ornaments out there.
Hope that helps!
Kari
Chochammie says
how big is the candy cane? i tried searching on michaels, is it the 9″ or 16″?
Kari Sweeten says
This tree was actually one of my first Christmas trees back in 2005 so I’m not sure if they still sell this size of candy cane. I would guess these candy canes would be closer to 16″ they are pretty big!
