Today I am so excited to have my very first guest posting experience ever, and share my newest tutorial with all the U Create readers!
It’s called my “Tied with a Bow” Pouch.
It is super easy to make- especially if you have ever made a zipper pouch before!
This pouch is roughly 7×9 inches so all the measurements work with this size but it can easily be adapted to work with any size pouch you are making!
To start you will need:
-One 7 inch zipper
-2 coordinating fabrics: 1 for the outside (Yellow) and one for the inside (Polka Dot)
-Medium weight fusible interfacing
-Thread
Step 1: Cut two pieces of the yellow fabric that measure 7 x 9 inches each, 2 pieces of the polka dot fabric that measure 7 x 9 inches each, and also cut two pieces of the interfacing that measure 7 x 9 inches each.
Step 2: Iron the fusible interfacing to the wrong side of the fabric for each of your yellow pieces of fabric.
Step 3: Lay one of the yellow pieces of fabric right side up, lay the zipper right side down (facing the yellow fabric), and then lay the polka dot fabric right side down on top of the zipper. Once you have your fabric and zipper alined, sew along the top edge of the fabric/ zipper.
Step 4: Unfold fabric to uncover the zipper and do the same thing with the last piece of yellow and polka dot fabric.
When you turn the fabrics right side out it should look like this.
Yellow fabric and zipper facing right side up and the polka dot fabric underneath should be facing right side down.
Step 5: Next, cut out one piece of the yellow fabric that measures 10 x 11 inches, 2 pieces that measure 3 x 5 inches, and 2 pieces that measure 2 x 3 inches.
Step 6: Put the 2 pieces of fabric that are 3 x 5 inches right side together and sew almost all the way around but leave 2 inches unstitched so you can turn the fabric right side out. Make sure you stay stitch back and forth a couple times where you leave off to the unstitched part.
Step 7: Turn the fabric right side out, iron flat, the tuck the unstitched edges back inside the hole, and then sew along the bottom of the edge to close.
Step 8: Take the 10 x 11 inch fabric and fold it in half lengthwise so the right sides of the fabric are
facing each other and sew along the edge to create a tube.
Step 9: Turn the tube right side out and iron flat.
Step 10: Take both of the 2 x 3 inch pieces of fabric and iron 1/8th seam on both sides of the fabric for both pieces.
Step 11: Line the fabric up so that the wrong sides of each fabric are facing each other and the ironed seams are on the inside.
Step 12: Sew along each side of the fabric.
Step 13: Fold the fabric in half horizontally, sew along the unfinished edge, and then turn the fabric so the seam is on the inside of the ring.
Step 14: Thread your long and short rectangles through the ring to create your bow. Depending on how thick or thin your fabric is this step may be tricky… Stick with it though- you are almost done!
Step 15: Line your bow up on the outside of one side of the pouch- Only pin and sew it to the yellow fabric- tuck the polka dot fabric underneath the other side for this step.
Step 16: Sew along the edge of the pouch to attach the bow in place. I have found that if you pin the corners of the bow in place where they need to line up but leave the center part unpinned you can pull the fabric to the right as you are sewing to make sure it is laying correctly without any puckers.
Do this for both sides of the pouch.
Step 17: Trim the fabric so there is no excess on both sides.
Step 18: Unzip the zipper halfway… This is the MOST important step because your zipper needs to be open half way so that you can turn your pouch right side out. (this will make more sense after you complete the next few steps.)
Step 19: Pin both of the yellow pieces of fabric right side together and sew all the way around the edge.
Step 20: Pin both of the polka dot fabrics right side together and sew almost all the way around the edges. You need to leave a 3-4 inch opening in the very bottom so that you can turn your pouch right side out. Make sure that you stay stitch really well so that your seams stay together when you are turning the fabric right side out.
Step 21: Turn your bag right side out. Then tuck the unfinished edges of the polka dot fabric inside.
Step 22: Sew along the bottom of the tucked in unfinished edges to finish it up.
Step 23: Push the polka dot liner into the bag and get everything all lined up- iron out any wrinkles to finish up and you are done!
Now you have your very own “Tied with a Bow” pouch to give as a gift, or keep for yourself! 😉

I love this. My daughter is turning 18 and wants a purse like this with a wrist handle to take nightclubing. Would you just add the wrist handle to the top of the side seam of the yellow fabric? I´ve just made my own!
I´m starting sewing, have already sew only some very basic skirts so it took me whole evening and morning but looks so great! I also added a wrist handle and now can´t wait to take it to my very first night spent by nightclubbing.
