I cherish my children’s teachers. Every single one of them.
I absolutely LOVE seeing all of the appreciation gifts out there because they sure deserve them! It’s the least we can do right?
It’s also such a great way to teach our children to say “thank you”.

Teacher Appreciation Gifts that teachers REALLY want! Teachers share their favorite gifts!

Well, I asked teachers on our Facebook page to share favorite gifts they have received during the school year and I can’t wait to share the results!
Here are the top 10 most popular answers…
1. Thoughtful Personal Note
2. Gift Cards
3. Spa/Pedicure Gift Certificate
4. Photo Book with Memories Throughout the Year
5. Handmade Bookmark with a Gift Certificate for a Book
6. Personalized Stationary
7. Money for School Supplies
8. Stack of Blank Homemade Cards
9. Flowers
10. Gift Basket Full of School Supplies

What teachers are saying…
I wanted to share a few comments from these fabulous teachers that I found very helpful!

Michelle McMillan Riggins: “When I taught k12, anything was always appreciated, of course, but the ones that meant the most were the ones that sent the message that the parent remembered that I was more than a teacher. The movie theater gift card, the cute beach towel and beach tote, the gift certificate for a mani-pedi… it always made me feel like they knew I sometimes needed a break from the classroom in order to be an even better teacher.”
Judy Switzer White: “Lots of great suggestions! But if you’re looking for really low budget, nice notepads are a great gift. I send out so many notes to parents, & it’s nice to have something pretty (not just the typical yellow mini-legal pads) to be able to write on to send home. And some that have envelopes are a bonus. Sometimes we don’t want little prying eyes to read the note!”
Christy Mathis: “I did not get this but one of the teachers on my team got a coupon for a pedicure – awesome gift for the start of summer! The rest of us were jealous! lol”
Ellen Justice: “Gift cards are great!! Amazon is a great choice because there you can get just about anything and everything there! Stay away from too many sweets — sadly, I end up tossing a good bit because I just simply can’t eat it all, especially since its just me at home. Fruit is a good choice. A student gave me a handmade cutting board (made by her grandpa) my first year teaching. I still have it and love it. Hmm…a new lunch box is nice as well!
Meridith Watson: “Gift cards are so appreciated. But i also love a well thought out personal note that shows the family appreciates time and effort. Those mean a lot.”

I headed to my local store and easily found post-it notes, sharpie highlighters, pencils, disinfecting wipes, notebooks, anything yellow, etc.!
I put the school supplies into this cute metal bucket, attached the FREE PRINTABLE SUNSHINE TAG and instantly had a gift the teacher was sure to love!!

I confess I am horrible at keeping track of my nieces and nephews’ birthdays…like really horrible.  So I made this calendar for myself so I can start fresh in January and be the world’s coolest Aunt! This birthday calendar is a also great gift for grandmas and moms for Christmas…and it’s a free printable just for you!

Simply Perfect Birthday Calendar at u-createcrafts.com

I printed my calendar in a large format so it would be big.  But you can print it however small or big you’d like.  I made the printable high-res for you.
Printable Birthday Calendar at U-createcrafts.com

Supplies Needed:

Printable Birthday Calendar with CanonStep #1: Print the calendar pages.  Mine is printed on 13″ x 19″ matte photo paper; nice and big!

Perpetual Calendar PrintableStep #2: Write EVERYONE’s birthdays down!

Step #3: Cut each sheet in half and trim it down to the size you’d like. I used a sewing mat and cutting wheel to get them all equal.

Birthday Calendar for ChristmasStep #4: Attach a way to hang it up.  I used a big office clip, but I think it would also be cool to hang it from loose rings, too.

How to make a school-lined t-shirt at U-createcraftsKari and I have always enjoyed making teacher gifts for those who help shape the minds of our children.  Good teachers truly do shape young minds and it can be a thankless job at times.  I am so grateful for a 10th grade math teacher who not only taught me how to understand math, but to LOVE it when I thought it was useless and hard.  I look back now and I can link my love of science to my love of math which was fostered by her! {Thank you Ms. Ivie}

Sometimes, however, I find it hard to come up with something useful and fun.  I have always loved this Lined Paper Tee Tutorial from our friend, Rachel, at Maybe Matilda.  My little one is in Kindergarten so I wanted to make a lined paper shirt that resembled that early-learning lined paper.  Check out how easy the tutorial is and how adorable the finished project!

Teacher Shirt Supplies

Supply List:

-White Cotton T-shirt

Tulip Fabric Markers (Black and Red)

-Clear Ruler

-Iron-on Apple Patch (Joann Crafts)

-Cardboard/Cardstock

Tulip Fabric MarkerPS: This tutorial is NOT an advertisement in any way.  I REALLY like these Tulip fabric markers.  I have used them on canvas shoes a bunch and I love them.  They are worth buying, in my opinion. So there is an honest review for you. 🙂

Making a teacher appreciation shirt#1:  Put a piece of cardstock or cardboard inside the shirt to prevent the markers from bleeding to the other side. Start the first line an inch or so below the neck line.  If you start at the shoulders you might not have the “Teacher” be where you want it.  I would hate to have it end up in the neckline or too low…if you know what I mean.

Using fabric markers#2:  Measure down 1 1/2″ from the top line and put a dot on the right side.  Do the same on the left side and use the ruler to connect the dots and make a straight line.

Craft it Forward Teacher gifts#3:  Measure 3/4″ from the bottom line and starting at one end (right or left, doesn’t matter), make dashes 1/2″ apart. Teacher Gifts

DIY Gifts for teachers#4:  After all three lines are completed (two solid and one dashed line), measure half an inch from the bottom line to start the top line of your next set of three lines (two solid and one dashed).  I meant to do the red line as the top line of the set of three, but totally spaced it…so, I tried to go over the black line a bit with my red, but it only made the black sort of bleed into my red marker. ugh!

How to use fabric markers#5:  Once you have the entire shirt “lined,” go to your first set of lines and write “Teacher” or Mr. or Mrs. so-and-so.  IMPORTANT: Let the ink dry for 24 hours! It will rub onto your skin if it’s not dry.

Teacher T-shirt at U-createcrafts#6:  Iron on the little apple patch and package it up for teacher.

Teacher Appreciation Gift-001

Normally, we do something girly and crafty for the teacher’s, but this year my son has a male teacher.   Girly and crafty were out of the question.  So with the help of my son, we decided upon a SUPERHERO theme.  I had seen this saying last year: “I teach. What’s your superpower?” and thought it would be perfect for Mr. B.

Now we just had to find something manly to put it on.  Really the possibilities are endless, but we decided on this grey hat I found…

Teacher Appreciation Gift-001

With this hat, my electronic craft cutter machine and some heat transfer we have the perfect teacher appreciation gift for those guy teachers.

Teacher-252520Appreciation-252520Gift-001_thumb-25255B39-25255D

#1: Create the image in the software that came with my electronic craft cutter

#2: Cut the emblem outline and the “i teach.” out of red heat transfer.

#3: Cut the light bulb and “what’s your superpower?” out of white heat transfer.

#4: Iron the emblem outline on first, then the light bulb, then the “i teach.”

#5: Lastly, iron the “What’s your superpower?” on the back above the strap.

And you’re done!

So I found this awesome glass paint at the craft store called GLASS STAIN…it is so cool you guys.  I made this faux stain glass pencil jar for a back-to-school teacher gift.  DIY-252520Stain-252520Glass-252520Pencil-252520Jar_thumb-25255B2-25255D

Seriously, you guys, this glass stain stuff transforms glass into a work of art.  Although the drying time is longer than ordinary paint, it’s permanent if used according to directions.

You are going to love this stuff!  There are so many possibilities.

Deco-252520Arts-252520Glass-252520Stain-252520Tutorial-2525201_thumb-25255B2-25255D

Supply List

Deco Arts Glass Stain Tutorial 2First, randomly put on the vinyl stencils. Deco-252520Art-252520Glass-252520Stain-252520Tutorial-2525203_thumb-25255B2-25255DTrace just inside the stencil with the BLACK LEADING GLASS STAIN.  This stuff provides the outline you will put the Glass Stain in. It keeps the Glass Stain from running all over the glass.
Deco-252520Arts-252520Stain-252520Glass-252520Tutorial-2525204_thumb-25255B2-25255DRemove the stencils while the Black Leading is still wet.  Let it try for an hour or so. It won’t drip so you can do all the apples and set the jar aside.  Be careful not to smudge the other apples.  It’s not fun to try to fix them. Deco Arts Glass Stain Tutorial 5This next part is just like coloring!  Fill in the outlined apple.  I put a dime sized amount of red in the middle and rubbed it around with the tip of the bottle.  This stuff WILL DRIP, so you have to lay it flat until it is dry which also takes a couple of hours.

YOU CANNOT WORK ON THE NEXT APPLE UNTIL THE LAST ONE IS DRY!

Deco-252520Arts-252520Stain-252520Glass-252520Tutorial-2525206_thumb-25255B2-25255DI know it seems like it took a while to make this project, but it was really easy and the end result is adorable!
Teacher Gift Tutorial u-createcrafts,com

I loved making this “stain glass” pencil jar.  It’s fun to try new art mediums! I now have so many other projects I want to tackle with this paint.  My daughter has a plain white glass piggy bank that I plan to adorn soon.  You could personalize so many things with this product!

Teachers hold a special place in my heart; especially the ones who go above the call of duty and truly love my kids.  I always like to do something special for them.  This year I made a Teacher Appreciation Gift Planter with seeds, gardening gloves and a special treat.

teacher appreciation garden gift

“Planting the Seeds” Teacher Gift Tutorial

Supplies

  • Tin Buckets (bought set of three at IKEA for $1.99)
  • Twine
  • 2 packages of seeds
  • garden gloves
  • paper bag
  • silk flower
  • Chalkboard label

teacher gift idea

1. Grab some twine and tie around the top. Attach flower and leaves with glue gun.

2. The chalkboard label was cut using the Silhouette and chalkboard vinyl. You could also use chalkboard contact paper (which must have been invented by a brilliant crafter, right?).

teachers plant the knowledge

3. Next, cut up a paper bag and print the saying “Teachers plant the seeds of knowledge that will grow forever!” onto it in any font you’d like. Yes, you can insert it right into your printer…crinkle and iron to give it that distressed look!

4. Staple seed packets on the back of paper and place everything into the bucket!

teacher appreciation garden gift

Teachers can use this bucket all year long and label it however they’d like with the chalk label! What do you give your kids’ teachers each year? Do you have a favorite thing to give them?

Make sure to check out all our other great teacher gifts.
