Introducing another fun challenge from Michaels Craft Stores
This month, we received a tin bucket with a little burlap canvas, wooden spools, chalkboard items and more to celebrate their upcoming RAW Bar line (coming to stores & online August 8th)!
I instantly fell in love with the mini burlap canvas and wanted to make a fun frame for my craft room.
Let me show you how simple this is to create…

Supplies:

  • mini burlap canvas
  • white acrylic paint
  • round paint sponge dauber
  • two mini clothespins
  • hot glue gun

Instructions:
1. Dip sponge dauber into the paint and gently paint polka dots.
2. Paint the clothespins (I used a black acrylic)
3. Let paint completely dry on canvas and clothespins. Hot glue the clothespins onto the canvas.
4. Display your favorite photo or saying!

These are so simple to create and they make a great gift, too!!

Oh and I also offer the free craft printable here in case you’re interested!

Check out the other fabulous craft tutorials for this month’s challenge…

I’m Rachel, and I blog over at Adventures of a DIY Mom. I’m thrilled to be here!  Today I’m going to show you how to make my latest beadboard project. This beadboard frame is designed to not only look cute, but to be functional and versatile as well. In the kitchen you can use it as a recipe card holder. In the living room, it can hold pictures. In the office, it could hold important memos.
DIY Clothespin Picture Frame by Adventures of a DIY Mom

Here’s the full tutorial of how to make your own….
However if you don’t have the time, tools, or inclination, I do have them for sale in my Etsy shop: Bits of Sparkle and Lace.

how to make a beadboard frame
This frame has been turned into a mini easel, by adding a hinged board.
How to Make a Recipe Card Holder FrameThis allows the frame to be set on any surface. If you are using it as a recipe card holder it’s convenient because the recipe is upright as opposed to sitting flat on the counter. You can check it easily with a quick glance.
Want to make your own Beadboard Picture Frame?

You will need:
5 X 7 frame {preferably black}
bead board {just a couple small scraps will do}
clothespin
sandpaper
large paint stick
small hinge
twine
paint
E6000 glue
wood glue
saw
drill
staple gun
1/4″ staples How to Make a beadboard picture Frame

Let’s start by cutting our wood.

You will probably need two pieces. It will vary depending on the type of beadboard and the frame you are using. I measured across the frame and then cut the wood to fit. I did have to cut a tiny bit off the bottom piece of beadboard as well to make it fit. The above picture shows what it should look like from the back and the front.
How to Make a Recipe Card Holder FrameI wanted it to match my Menu board, so I used the same colors as I did for that. The beadboard is painted with a brown chalkboard paint. The frame and clothespin {taken apart} are painted Light Houser Green. {Chalkboard paint is not necessary at all, I will probably not ever use it as a chalkboard. But  I wanted it to match, so I used the same colors as I did for that.} I always do three coats of paint.
How to Make a beadboard picture Frame

Now it’s time to sand off some of that paint on the frame. This is where it gets it’s character.

Just grab some sandpaper and rub it along the frame. Take off as much or as little paint as you like. This is where it’s nice to have a black frame to begin with. If you use a frame that is not black to begin with, you will want to paint a few coats of black paint on before painting your chosen color. How to Make a Recipe Card Holder FrameNow it’s time to glue the bead board to the frame. I always do a dry fit one last time before adding the glue. Just add a little bit of wood glue along the frame as picture above. How to Make a beadboard picture FramePlace your beadboard in the frame and fold down the metal clips. How to Make a Recipe Card Holder FrameNow turn your frame over. You will probably have a little glue squeezing out in a few places. It is very important that you clean it off while it is still wet. Just grab a damp paper towel and it will wipe right off.How to Make a Recipe Card Holder Frame
If you want to hang this on the wall, just add a sawtooth hanger to the back and you’re done.

But I wanted my frame to stand on it’s own. So I had to think of a way to make that happen. I found a paint stick in the garage, cut it to 8 1/2″ and sanded down any wording that was on it. I drilled a hole in the center of one end.How to Make a beadboard picture Frame Then I added the paint stick to the frame using a small hinge. I found that the wood in this frame was VERY hard. I ended up pre-drilling two small holes to get the screws in. They went into the paint stick wood a lot easier. How to Make a Recipe Card Holder FrameNow staple a piece of twine to the bottom of the frame. How to Make a beadboard picture FrameThen insert the twine into the hole and tie a knot.
The last step is to put your clothespin back together and attach it to the beadboard. I used E6000 glue. You could use hot glue, but it isn’t as strong.DIY Clothespin Picture Frame by Adventures of a DIY MomThere you have it. How will you use your frame?

DIY China Cabinet Frames by I Am Only 1 Woman

Hi!  I am Bobbie and I blog over at I am Only 1 Woman and I have an Etsy Shop called A Vision to Remember.  I am the mom to 3 little girls that keep my life fun and eventful, and maybe even a little dramatic at times!

I love to refinish furniture and recently I redid a China cabinet to store a little fabric in:

China Cabinet Makeover by I Am Only 1 Woman

The only problem was I had 2 doors that I no longer needed and didn’t know what to do with them for sure, until I had the idea to turn them into a picture display.

DIY China Cabinet Frames by I Am Only 1 Woman
So I went about painting them with my favorite paint sprayer.  I kept the original handles on the cupboards because I love the way they look, but I did spray pain them silver instead of the yucky old brass color.

Then I picked out the pictures that I wanted to use and placed them where I wanted them.

Then I used a few glue dots on each picture to secure the pictures down.

The first time I hung the pictures I used 2 nails and that did the trick for a few weeks until one of my daughters walked by and brushed the frame…Crash!!!  So then I bought some of the Command Strips that are like velcro and stuck those to the back of the frame and they work PERFECTLY!

I just love how they came out!

In my opinion, the best thing to make a house feel more homey is family pictures.  Recently I snapped some photos of my siblings and our families and wanted a cute way to present them to my mom…ya know, rather than handing her the Costco envelope full of photos.  This amazing collage frame dropped into my lap (thanks to the lovely people at Shaped Expressions).  It has exactly the right amount of squares for all the photos I printed…I love when stuff like that happens.

Sadly, the frame was vandalized the next day.  Don’t worry, I caught the offender.  It wasn’t too hard. 😉

Vandalized Frame

I love unpainted frames.  They are a blank canvas ready for a little crafting to take place.  This frame is about to see some serious crafting care of Deco Art paint and stencils.

Supplies:

-Collage Frame

-“School Bus” Yellow Multi-Surface Paint

-“White Birch” Multi-Surface Paint

-Houndstooth Stencil

-Stencil Brush

-patience

Collage Tutorial

After painting the entire frame with White Birch paint, I began the stenciling process with the School Bus Yellow.

2 painted stencil

If you are nervous to start stenciling, don’t be.  This is my very first time using stencils and I am hooked.  I just laid stencil down and dabbed my stenciling brush on it.  Don’t use strokes, just dab the paint on the frame.  Lift the stencil and check out how crisp and uniform the design is.

3-252520Moving-252520the-252520stencil_thumb-25255B2-25255D

Wait about 5 minutes and reposition the stencil overlapping a bit onto the previous design.  This way it keeps the design going.  Making it look like you used one giant stencil. I had fun seeing this frame completely transform.

4-252520Stenciled-252520Picture-252520Frame_thumb-25255B2-25255D

5-252520Collage-252520Picture-252520Frame-252520decor_thumb-25255B2-25255D

Although I really like the bright color and crisp lines, it’s a bit too perfect.  So I took some fine sand paper to it and then added some stain.  I painted the stain on and quickly wiped it off leaving just the slightest hint of distressing.

6-252520Sanded-252520and-252520Stained-252520Frame_thumb-25255B2-25255D

Stenciled Frame

Then I painted the inside of all the little frames with the School Bus Yellow paint. After adding all the photos (except the one I am still waiting on), I absolutely LOVE how it turned out. It’s fun to see my mom’s little family all in one frame.  I hope she likes it…if not, I have no problem keeping it for myself. 🙂

Hi there! I’m Sada over from my blog – Sada Lewis : My {Online} Notebook! I am so excited to be a guest blogger today! My husband and I just moved into our first home back in April. It has been sooo much fun and sooo expensive! You probably hear me on that one right?! I am trying to find inexpensive and creative ways to spruce up our home and make it feel like our own. Our kitchen was updated by the previous owner so luckily all I have to do is add some fun splashes of color here and there.
I’m not a big fan of chaos on the front of the fridge so I decided to make some cute magnetic fabric frames using what I already had in my craft stash 🙂

Cute Fabric
Cork Board
Fabric Glue
Foam Brush
Heavy Cardstock
Mod Podge
Magnetic Tape

You can grab the templates I used at my blog.
Only glue down three sides so that one is open for you to insert pictures or a mini graphic print. Be sure to only glue along the very edge so that a small lip of your fabric remains glue-less so photos can slide nicely under it. Now your frame should look like this –
Add a cute picture and you’re done!
You can even create a mini gallery wall on your fridge!

I also left some of the frames with the cork board backing so I can pin important notes on them.
Head on over to my blog to download the templates and a free graphic print for your frame!

Thanks so much for having me Kari!
