How to Remodel Your Bathroom in one simple weekend! u-createcrafts.comYou know when you have a room in your home that is your least favorite and you just deal with it and don’t remodel it? This is how I felt about one of my bathrooms. It’s a small bathroom and for me personally the smaller rooms are the ones I don’t seem to get around to decorating. It was outdated and my taste in home decor has changed so much since I decorated it about 7 years ago.

Well, I decided to give it a quick refresh (in a weekend!) and today I’m showing you a few things you can do to give a bathroom a whole new look without breaking the bank!

Are you ready for the before pics?

Before - Bathroom Refresh

The only thing I like about this bathroom is the shower curtain I purchased a couple of months ago.  So I decided to keep that in my new bathroom decor. I donated the metal floral decor above the toilet along with the canvases to our local thrift store.

Another thing that kept bugging me was that the sink and light fixtures didn’t match the towel bar and door knob – so I knew I wanted to go with a satin or brushed silver look!

These are the simple steps you can take to remodel a bathroom in one weekend or less!

DOOR HARDWARE

The first thing my husband and I did was replace the door knob with this pretty Schlage door lever.

It only took a few minutes to change the hardware and we couldn’t believe the difference this alone made. We used the Schlage Sacramento lever in Polished Nickel. Available at Lowe’s.

OTHER HARDWARE & FRESH COAT OF PAINT

While I was at Lowe’s, I also found these beautiful crystal knobs that I put on my newly painted, white cabinets. They look brand new and so much better than the previous dark brown color.

COZY ACCESSORIES

Next, we added floating shelves and some simple accessories like towels, cotton balls, picture frames, and a small plant. Really makes this small space feel cozy.

SEARCH YOUR HOUSE

I decided to raid my craft room for any accessories and I found these wooden hexagons that have been in the closet for almost one year. I grabbed my acrylic paints and gave them an ombre blue look!

I was excited to finally put these fun shelves to use! Oh, and I found this awesome map art at Lowe’s for only $30 and knew it had to go above the towel bar.

Oh, and I’m glad I didn’t change the shower curtain because I love how it looks in the bathroom!

So you know that room that keeps getting ignored because you don’t take the time to tackle it?

Jump in and do a few simple things like adding to door hardware, a fresh coat of paint, and adding cozy accessories (that you might already have lying around your house)! You can accomplish this in one day or a weekend – it might be easier than you think!

So a couple of years back I had a cabinet makeover…NIGHTMARE.

I painted my kitchen cabinets white and it took me hours and hours. I applied a poly coat on top and the next day they started turning yellow.

I cried. I was so frustrated with all of the prep work and time it took and then for them to turn a yucky yellow color?  Definitely, my biggest DIY fail ever.

When I had the opportunity to try out a brand new product by Valspar, their Cabinet Enamel paint I was nervous. I decided I would tackle a small project to see if I liked the paint. It was supposed to leave no brush marks, no yellowing, and even cover old finishes!

I decided to try it on my basement bathroom and wanted a light, gray look so I chose the Valspar Granite color.

I grabbed my headphones and a good audible book and went in. My cabinets didn’t need any prepping because they were pretty smooth, but I would suggest giving your cabinets a light sanding if you have any bumps or major imperfections.

I started painting and noticed…

  • the paint wasn’t as strong smelling as some of the other paints with oil in them
  • it went on very smoothly
  • I could’ve gotten away with only one coat, but it gave it that professional look by adding one more.

I added some hardware and LOVE how the cabinets turned out!

I transformed my dresser and gave it a whole new look with Annie Sloan chalk paint!

Ideas for Bathroom ShelvesI’m currently working on remodeling my master bathroom and was ecstatic to participate in the Sauder “Put It Together” challenge. I have a blank wall that needed some love (and a piece of modern furniture) to store some of my daily bathroom items without looking sloppy or messy.

Can I just say how much fun putting this together was? While reading the instructions, the booklet explained to do A, B next, C…and so on. Then the sense of humor comes out and it says “now you know our ABC’s” you can put this together. Following directions can be boring right?! My husband and I got a kick out of the funny sayings during the building process. We had this built in only 20 minutes – a piece of cake!

Sauder ShelvingAs for styling, I grabbed some metal buckets, mason jars and began filling them with bathroom essentials! I also wanted to use some plants and candles to give the room a cozy feel.

Cotton Ball StorageI found some polka dot towels that I fell in love with and they fit perfectly on these Sauder shelves. Step one of my bathroom is complete.  I love all of the storage that this piece offers. You can do so many different things with it: display in a living room with books, a craft room with supplies, and so much more!

My new bathroom is finished!

It is so nice to have a “non-creepy” bathroom that constantly gets used now!

This basement bathroom is bright, crisp, clean, and we absolutely love how it turned out.
Let’s get started with the before and after pictures…

Before-After-DIY-Mirror
…the old medicine cabinet? Gone. I used some pallet wood to frame a plain mirror, and it looks so much better!
I made a DIY Pallet shelf and put it on the blank wall above the toilet…

…more storage and the pallet wood matches the mirror pallet border! So I’m still not 100% happy with the old shower but it looks way better with the lighter walls.
I can’t believe how paint can make such a difference!

The cabinets! We painted them white with Sherwin-Williams SW 7005 Pure White, added new hardware and they are as good as new!

The paint for the wall is SW 6211 Rainwashed from Sherwin-Williams. I don’t think we could have picked a better paint color for this bathroom. It’s peaceful, calm, and we are crazy about the light blue-ish, green color.

I used the Krylon spray paint primer in white, and painted with Krylon Flat White spray paint.

Decorate and you are done! We are always using cotton balls and q-tips, so I grabbed a couple of tin buckets and filled them up. Way easy!
